Mail When the Customer Puts Something in Cart and then Exits

There should be a mail to me and a reminder mail to customer if he has put something in the cart and then exited. Feature has been discussed and I understand that it is in the pipeline, but should be expedited. Also no mails come to us on abandoned order. This was earlier available, why has it been discontinued
